How do models get scouted in the UK?
Model scouting in the UK happens through several channels — and the landscape has changed significantly in the last decade. The traditional image of a scout approaching someone in a shopping centre or on the street still exists, however there are now more ways to be scouted, and you should treat any such approach with considerable caution (we address scam scouting specifically below).

  • Scouting today happens primarily through:
    • Direct online applications to established agencies. Reputable agencies like Premier review every submission personally.
    • Social media. Instagram and TikTok in particular has become a legitimate scouting tool. Agents do browse profiles - natural, unfiltered images that show personality and presence are far more compelling than heavily edited content.

    • Photographer and casting director referrals. Test photographers and editorial photographers who regularly work with agencies will sometimes introduce talent they believe has potential.


Can you approach a model agency yourself, or do you have to be discovered?

At a well-established London model agency, scouting is typically done by experienced agents and bookers who review applications, attend industry events, and occasionally scout in person. How do I know if a scout or agency approaching me is legitimate?

  • The agency cannot be verified as a member of the British Fashion Model Agents association (BFMA).
