A History-Making Moment : Bhavitha Mandava Opening for Chanel
There are moments in this industry that remind us why we do what we do - why we discover, why we nurture, why we believe.
For us, Bhavitha Mandava is one of those moments.
Watching her become the first Indian model to open a Chanel show felt significant in a way that goes beyond headlines. It was a deeply personal, almost full-circle moment for someone whose path into fashion was anything but conventional. At Premier, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with Bhavitha as her career has developed steadily and with intention. Seeing her open for Chanel was an immensely proud moment — not only for what it represents historically, but for what it reflects about her journey.
Before the Spotlight
Before her modelling career began, Bhavitha was studying architecture in Hyderabad. She later moved to New York to pursue a master’s degree in assistive technology and human–computer interaction at NYU — a discipline far removed from fashion.
From the start, Bhavitha approached life with focus and curiosity. She was never seeking visibility for its own sake, and perhaps that’s what makes everything that followed feel so organic.
The Subway Moment
Like many models, her discovery arrived unexpectedly — scouted in a New York subway station. No casting, no production, no spectacle. Just Bhavitha on her way through the city, in jeans and a T-shirt.
Two weeks later, she was walking exclusively for Bottega Veneta under Matthieu Blazy. That first meeting marked the beginning of a relationship that would go on to shape some of the most meaningful milestones of her career.
A Full-Circle Story Only Fashion Could Write
When Matthieu Blazy stepped into his role at Chanel, he continued to recognise what we see every day in Bhavitha.
What came next was impossible to predict.
Blazy selected Bhavitha to open the 2026 Chanel Métiers d’Art show, staged inside a decommissioned Bowery subway station.
The same city.
The same underground.
A runway built where her career had first begun.A true full-circle moment - symbolic, poetic, and unmistakably Bhavitha.
It was a moment that felt unmistakably intentional. With that opening walk, Bhavitha became the first Indian model to lead a Chanel show — a quiet but defining addition to the brand’s history.
A Moment That Resonated Online
After the show, Bhavitha shared a video of her parents watching her Chanel opening for the first time. Their reaction — unfiltered and deeply proud — quickly struck a chord. The clip travelled widely, and her story was soon picked up by publications including Marie Claire, Preview, International Business Times, along with extensive Indian press, and most recently written about by Vogue and Dazed.
The response has highlighted how meaningful this achievement was, not only for Bhavitha and her family, but also for many who saw her journey as an inspiring moment of representation.
What Comes Next
Bhavitha opening a Chanel show will remain an important moment in the industry. But for us at Premier, it feels more like a chapter than a conclusion.
We know there is so much more ahead of her.
More doors to open.
More achievements ahead.
More people to quietly inspire through example..
Bhavitha didn’t just walk into Chanel - she walked into history. And we couldn’t be prouder to stand beside her as she does.
