Darius  Campbell

Since the age of nine, Darius knew that he would be a pop star. After studying English Literature at Edinburgh, Darius performed with the Scottish Opera, and developed a keen passion for performing to an audience. And then he auditioned for Pop Idol...

His appearance on the television show created a national sensation: the judges and public alike recognised the phenomenal voice and musical talent of the Glasgow-born singer. It was clear that Darius was determined to succeed and that he was here to stay. After the first Pop Idol audition, Darius penned Colourblind on the back of a bus ticket, which became his debut single, and the album 'Dive In' which went platinum. Colourblind launched Darius's full-time solo career, and he is now firmly established as one of the country's leading singer-song writers.

It was during the subsequent tour that Darius discovered that a publisher was penning an unofficial biography on him. This spurred him into writing his own book 'Darius: Sink or Swim' in which he revealed what really goes on behind the scenes on TV and his how he got his foothold into the music industry.

Just as everything was going from strength to strength, Darius received the shock news that his father was seriously ill. Being part of a very close family, Darius retreated from the limelight to give his support. The emotionaly rollercoaster of his father's illness, and then the breakdown of a romantic relationship led to an outpouring of lyrics and Darius' second album 'Live Twice'.

The beginning of 2006 saw Darius complete a hugely successful run of eight weeks as lead character 'Billy Flyn' in West End production 'Chicago', to rave reviews.

In 2009 he guest-starred on the BBC show Hotel Babylon, starring as Gennaro Fazio, an Italian magazine editor.

In January and February 2010 Campbell competed in and won the UK's ITV1 talent show Popstar to Operastar, in which eight pop stars were trained to perform world-famous opera arias. He was mentored by world-leading tenor Rolando Villazon, with whom he went on to duet with on the song "The Impossible Dream", to popular acclaim.
